Children’s bedroom mural

The brief
The bedroom was in an old, English cottage, and would serve as a bedroom for the visiting grandchildren. The grandchildren were of varying ages and interests, some of which were keen on: fairies, dinosaurs and castles. We decided to create a worlds which incorporated lots of different elements, in a colour scheme that would be relaxing and easy to live with. A fun final touch was painting in the grandchildren as characters within the mural.
Design Development
Using Adobe Photoshop and hand painted elements, I created a mock up of the mural.
The next stage is the painting of the design, laying down the background layer.
This design used a number of different techniques, from large brushes (including a sweeping brush!) to taping up sections. If you’d like to see more of the process, there are videos on Martha’s instagram.
